We Built a TCU Configurator. Here's Why.

Specifying a temperature control unit shouldn't require three emails and a week of waiting. We built a self-service engineering tool that gives you a configured recommendation in 60 seconds.

Specifying a TCU Should Not Take a Week

For most engineers, specifying a temperature control unit follows a familiar and frustrating process. You check a supplier's website, find a catalogue PDF, try to match your process requirements to a model table, and then reach out to sales to confirm whether your interpretation was correct. The process is slow, opaque, and often results in units that are oversized — because when in doubt, everyone rounds up.

We decided to fix this. Today, we are launching the Boe-Therm TCU Configurator at boe-therm.com/configurator.

What the Configurator Does

The configurator is a self-service engineering tool. No login required, no sales gate. It takes your process parameters and returns a configured TCU recommendation with actual specifications — model, heating capacity, pump type, cooling configuration, and dimensions.

It works in three modes, depending on where you are in your specification process:

Find My TCU is for engineers who know their process but are not sure which TCU model fits. You answer a few questions — application type, process temperature range, required flow rate — and the tool matches you to the right model with a suggested configuration.

Configure by Spec is for engineers who already know their technical requirements. Input your target temperature, heating capacity, cooling type, pump flow, and voltage — and get a complete configured unit back.

I Know My Model is for repeat buyers or engineers who have already identified a Boe-Therm model. Select it, customise the options, and submit your configuration for a quote.

Why We Built It

Two reasons.

First, right-sizing matters. An oversized TCU does not just cost more upfront — it runs less efficiently, generates more heat than necessary, and wears components faster than a properly matched unit. When engineers can see the actual specifications mapped to their process requirements, they make better decisions. A 9 kW heater in a TEMP 95 is a very different proposition from a 36 kW heater in the same platform. The configurator helps you land on the right combination.

Second, speed. Boe-Therm's standard delivery time for configured units is 3–4 weeks from order. But the specification phase before ordering can easily take longer than that. We wanted to compress that phase from days to minutes. If you can get a configured recommendation in 60 seconds, the conversation with our engineering team starts at a much higher level — discussing optimisation, not basic model selection.

What Makes This Different

Most TCU suppliers offer product catalogues online — some with filters, some with PDF downloads. The Boe-Therm configurator goes further because it reflects how we actually build units. We do not sell fixed models off a shelf. Every unit is configured to order: heating capacity, pump selection, cooling type, voltage, and communication interface are all choices, not fixed specifications.

The configurator mirrors that manufacturing reality. It covers our full water TCU range (TEMP 90XS through TEMP 160, up to 160°C) and oil TCU range (TEMP 150 through TEMP 350L, up to 350°C). Each configuration shows real specifications from our production platform — the same specs that go on the build order.

Who It Is For

Process engineers specifying TCUs for new production lines or mould changes. OEM machine builders evaluating Boe-Therm as an integration partner. Production managers who need a quick check on whether their current TCU is right-sized for their process. And our existing distributor partners, who can use the tool to qualify customer requirements before reaching out to us.

The configurator is live now at boe-therm.com/configurator. No account needed.

If you have feedback on the tool — or if your process needs something the configurator does not cover — contact us directly at info@boe-therm.dk. We build custom configurations every week, and the configurator is designed to handle the majority of standard applications while flagging the ones that need direct engineering support.
